Kapolei

At a Glance

Oahu's Second City is an idea that's been discussed and debated for decades. The crowded living conditions, traffic problems, and other issues were a mounting crisis that called for a solution, or at least relief.

Oahu’s thriving “Second City,” Kapolei, was the answer. Located at the base of the Waianae Mountain Range on the leeward coast. Along with the housing has come new shopping centers, parks, schools, medical centers, government buildings, universities, entertainment, eating options, and more. Today there are over 12,000 homes and condos in Kapolei, and the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting expects there to be more than 50,000 residences by 2035. Though it is an emerging city, most of the real estate in Kapolei is houses and townhomes. This is a low-rise neighborhood, befitting its plantation past. While Kapolei continues construction, adding even more amenities as Honolulu Rail stops, the plan for development ensures it retains a local community feel. The regional plan advocates for sustainable, pedestrian-friendly growth with gardens, community services, and a focus on technology – making Kapolei an exciting, spacious, westside neighborhood to call home. As a more affordable option, Kapolei has benefited first-time homebuyers most.

The Market

Affordability remains, making this a good place to invest with townhomes starting at less than $400K. Along with the affordable, you'll find luxury homes in Kapolei as well. There are also the statelier homes of Kapolei-Iwalani, which are reminiscent of Kahala-styled houses.
